Free Cyber Insurance and Danzell: Does the £25k Policy Change?

    Published 13 July 2026

The policy basics – still the same

    • Free £25,000 cyber liability cover.
    • UK-domiciled organisations, turnover under £20m.
    • Whole-organisation CE certificate (not sub-set).
    • Underwritten by AIG, administered via IASME's broker.
    • 24/7 UK incident response helpline.

    What Danzell does change

Danzell tightens the route to the certificate, not the policy that follows it. Specifically:

    • Scoping wording is firmer – be careful that you actually have whole-organisation scope.
    • MFA wording is firmer – borderline MFA setups that scraped through Willow may not pass.
    • CE Plus marking is stricter – worth knowing if you are aiming for CE Plus too.

If any of those tightenings cause you to certify a sub-set instead of the whole organisation – for example to keep a problematic legacy system out – you lose access to the free insurance. See our Danzell scoping guide.

    The renewal trap

The free insurance lapses the moment your certificate lapses. Diary your CE renewal at least 30 days before expiry. See our renewal guide.

    Should you top up?

£25,000 is meaningful baseline cover. Most SMEs handling personal data or payments carry £1m–£5m. The free policy is a foundation, not a ceiling. See CE insurance vs standalone cyber insurance for the comparison.

How to claim if the worst happens

Call the 24/7 helpline as soon as you suspect an incident. Delays can void cover. Full step-by-step in our claims walkthrough.
