Cyber Essentials Benefits: Tender Wins, Insurance & Trust
Published 30 April 2026
1. Win public sector contracts
Cyber Essentials is mandatory for UK central government contracts handling sensitive information and for almost every Government Commercial Agency framework – G-Cloud, DOS, Tech Services, MoD frameworks. Without it, your bid is rejected at PQQ stage. See our tender support.
2. Cheaper, better cyber insurance
Most UK cyber insurers now treat Cyber Essentials as a minimum control or offer premium reductions for certified organisations. Insurance certifying via IASME also includes £25,000 of free cyber liability cover for UK organisations under £20m turnover – the policy is underwritten and renewed annually with your certificate.
3. Pass supply-chain due diligence
Large buyers cascade cyber requirements down their supply chain. Holding Cyber Essentials means you can answer most security questionnaires with a single certificate rather than 80-page responses. It is the most-cited UK control in third-party risk forms.
4. Demonstrate genuine cyber hygiene
The five controls reduce exposure to the most common attack patterns: phishing, weak passwords, missed patches, exposed admin accounts and unmanaged devices. The NCSC estimates Cyber Essentials defends against around 80% of common cyber attacks.
5. Build customer trust
The badge is recognisable, government-backed and verifiable on the IASME register. Display it on your website, proposals and email footer to give clients a quick signal of due diligence.
What it is not
Cyber Essentials is a baseline, not a guarantee. It does not replace ISO 27001 or Cyber Assurance for larger or more regulated environments. See our comparison.
