What the audit actually involves
The assessor tests a representative sample of your devices rather than taking your word for the configuration. That means authenticated vulnerability scanning, checks that patches are applied within the required timescales, verification that malware protection is active, confirmation that accounts follow the access control requirements, and tests of how the devices handle malicious files and web content.
Sampling matters. The sample is drawn across your operating systems, device types and user groups, so an estate with Windows laptops, Macs, iPhones and Android phones will have all of them tested. A single unpatched machine in the sample can fail the audit, which is why the readiness check before the audit is not optional in practice.
Cyber Essentials Plus pricing in Derby
£1,400 + VAT for 1 to 9 staff, £1,500 + VAT for 10 to 49, £1,650 + VAT for 50 to 249 and £2,000 + VAT for 250 or more. Because we are based in Derby, there is no travel surcharge for on-site audits across Derby, Derbyshire and the wider East Midlands.
If you need both stages, the combined Cyber Essentials Done For You and Cyber Essentials Plus package is £2,100 + VAT for 1 to 9 staff, £2,300 + VAT for 10 to 49 and £2,550 + VAT for 50 to 249. Organisations of 250 or more are quoted individually.
Timing it around a contract deadline
Plus cannot be rushed the way basic Cyber Essentials can, because the audit has to be scheduled and the estate has to be in a passing state on the day. Allow three to four weeks for both stages if you are starting from nothing, and longer if you know you have unsupported systems or patching gaps.
The weekend fast track applies to standalone Cyber Essentials only. Cyber Essentials Plus audits are carried out during the working week.
