Cyber Essentials for Derby Aerospace and Defence Suppliers

Derby's aerospace cluster and the defence supply chain around it operate under some of the strictest supplier security expectations in the UK. Cyber Essentials is the entry requirement, and Cyber Essentials Plus is frequently the actual ask.

What the defence supply chain expects

Ministry of Defence contracts apply cyber security requirements to suppliers based on the sensitivity of the information involved. Cyber Essentials is the baseline for the lowest risk levels, with progressively stronger controls required as the information becomes more sensitive. Aerospace primes apply comparable expectations through their own supplier assurance programmes.

For most Derby suppliers in this space, the practical reality is that the certificate is checked at bid stage, must be current, and must cover the part of your business doing the work. A certificate that excludes the systems actually handling the contract data will not satisfy a serious assurance review.

    Scope, cost and sequencing

Get the scope right first. Aerospace and defence suppliers often want to certify only the division doing the sensitive work. That is legitimate, but the boundary has to be genuine: separate network segments, separate accounts, evidenced separation. We assess whether that is achievable before you commit to a scope.

Cyber Essentials is £320 + VAT for 1 to 9 staff, £440 + VAT for 10 to 49, £500 + VAT for 50 to 249 and £600 + VAT for 250 or more. Cyber Essentials Plus is £1,400 + VAT to £2,000 + VAT. Plus requires a Cyber Essentials certificate issued within the previous three months, so allow for both stages when a contract deadline is fixed.
